==========================================
[WARNING 2.x and 3.x language modules are *not* compatible with IM 4.x, 5.x and 6.x series!]

Aladdin Systems currently provides InstallerMaker language modules for Swedish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish (Latin Am.), Spanish (Euro), Finnish, Danish, Norwegian, Brazilian Portuguese and a template file containing the default English resources, called "English to Localize" in the "Languages" folder inside the "StuffIt InstallerMaker" folder. You can build installers using these resources as you see fit. For best results, we recommend that you check your installers using the system software of the appropriate country before you ship, to verify that your localized installers look as you want.

Creating Installers For Other Languages:
==========================================

If you wish to localize your product installers in languages other than ones we now support, please contact Aladdin Systems Developer Technical Support, at (831) 761-6200, to see if the language you need is available.

For localization of languages that Aladdin cannot supply, you can create your own language modules, by editing a copy of the "English to Localize" file with a suitable resource editor such as ResEdit. You may distribute these modified installers under the same conditions as any other product installer, even if you don't notify us.

There are some strings in certain resources within the "English To Localize" file that should never be translated, and others that need not be translated because they are only present as "dummy" text and are never displayed to users.

The list below details the strings in resources that do not require translation:

STR# 130: strings 2, 3, and 5.
STR# 220: strings 1, 2, and 6.
STR# 250: string 2
STR# 300: string 1, 2, and 6.
STR# 400: string 1, 3, 6, and 7
STR# 1500: string 3 is the name of a system installed mono-spaced font.
STR#2000: All strings are expected to remain in the language used.
STR#5480: strings 1, 2, and 3 are names of system installed fonts. String 20 should not be changed.

ALRT/DITL 157 - "StuffIt Engine" should not be translated in the text
ALRT/DITL 1030 - ! StuffIt Installer Cleanup should not be translated in the text.
DLOG/DITL 261 - All strings other than the button and copyright strings are dummy text.
DLOG/DITL 1195 - All text is dummy text.
DLOG/DITL 2000 - All strings are expected to remain in the language used.

Other things to consider when translation strings in resources:

STR -32767 - This string is what appears in the Language popup menu at build time, in the "Save As" dialog that appears in InstallerMaker.

In the resource STR# 216, note that strings 1-5, 13 & 14 have a carriage return character at the end.

vers 3 - This resource does not contain information shown to users, it is for internal identification of the language module only.

If you have language modules you'd like us to make available to the developer community, just send them to us, and we'll post them on our on-line service forums. For assistance in creating your own language modules using the template file, please contact Aladdin Systems Developer Technical Support.

We wish all of you the best of luck in your foreign sales and distribution, and would like to do what we can to help you succeed in these markets.

Sincerely,
Developer Technology
